Former IU center Cody Zeller traded to Atlanta – Inside the Hall

Former IU center Cody Zeller is on the move.

The 31-year-old big man, who was an unrestricted free agent, signed with New Orleans (where he played last season) and was traded to Atlanta in a trade for guard Dejounte Murray.

“The Atlanta Hawks have acquired guard Dyson Daniels, forwards EJ Liddell and Larry Nance Jr., and center Cody Zeller (via trade), a 2025 first-round pick (via the Lakers) and a conditional 2027 first-round pick (lowest Bucks/Pelicans pick, top-4 protected) from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for guard Dejounte Murray,” the Hawks announced Saturday.

Terms of Zeller’s deal were not announced, but his inclusion in the trade was necessary to ensure salaries matched and to allow Murray to earn a trade bonus.

Spotrac estimates that Zeller will make $3.3 million next season. According to Bobby Marks, Zeller’s contract for the 2024-25 season is guaranteed. The contract he signed is supposed to be for three years, but only the first season is supposed to be guaranteed, according to Tristan Tucker.

The former Indiana Mr. Basketball has already played 11 seasons in the NBA and earned more than $75 million.

Zeller has played 552 games for Charlotte, Portland, Miami and New Orleans and has career averages of 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
