June 30 Update – 1- Hurricane UpdateHurricane Beryl is already in the record books, reaching Category 4 strength late Sunday morning. It becomes the first hurricane in June to reach Category 4 strength, a feat made possible by record warm waters. The storm will make landfall in the Windward Islands on Monday as a Category 4 storm and continue westward across the Caribbean. By midweek, the storm will be near Jamaica as a major hurricane, and most forecast models have the storm on the Yucatan Peninsula by Friday. Anyone with travel plans to the Yucatan (including Cozumel, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum) should keep a close eye on the weather. Beyond that point, models are split on the final track, but it is possible that the storm could sweep through the Yucatan and move into the southern Gulf of Mexico. Any specific projections of landfall beyond that point would be pure speculation, but we will be monitoring it closely as the models come into better agreement. ****Maybe some of us should go get ready early, so the stores can restock.
