Houston is getting its own Malibu Barbie Café restaurant and roller skating rink — it’s Barbie’s world come to life

IIf you couldn’t get enough of last summer’s hit movie Barbiewhere Greta Gerwig brought the world’s most famous doll to life in the human form of Barbie-like actress Margo Robbie, we have a pink-themed pop-up just for you. Starting in August, global toymaker Mattel and media experiences brand Bucket Listers are bringing the Malibu Barbie Cafe to Houston.

After stops in New York, Chicago, Miami and, of course, the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Barbie will head west to Houston for a stint that will run from August to October. If it’s been a while since you’ve played with the 11-inch doll and you’re confused about Superstar Barbie from Malibu Barbie, here’s some clarification. According to Mattel execs, “Malibu Barbie is the ultimate surfer girl with a tan and long, straight hair.”

Malibu Barbie Cafe Miami
Mattel and experiential media brand Bucket Listers open Malibu Barbie Café in Houston.

In anticipation of this sparkling unveiling, we suggest you break out your bubblegum pink cowboy boots and polish your fingers and toenails a bright magenta hue to experience what promoters are calling the “ultimate form of Barbiecore,” which is opening at Junction HTX at 8200 Washington Avenue in the Timbergrove section of The Heights.

Open through mid-October, Malibu Barbie Cafe invites Barbie fans (and those who love them) to dine at this fast-casual pop-up restaurant. The all-day menu was created by none other than the TV contestant, Chef finalist and Chopped Champion chef Becky Brown offers sassy dishes like the Beachside Breakfast Burrito, Make Waves Avocado Toast, Stay Groovy Grilled Cheese and a California Dreamin’ Club sandwich that will likely please Barbie fans ages 3 to 93.

Did we mention the awesome roller skating rink? Yes, the Malibu Barbie Cafe has one too.

Did we mention the roller rink? Lace up your skates, kids (good news: $1 from every roller skate rental goes to the charity Girls INC). And of course, there’s merch. Lots of Barbie merch, plus a variety of interactive activities for fans to enjoy in between laps on the rink. There are also special events, like cupcake decorating classes, paint parties, and 21-and-over skating parties.

Tickets to the restaurant ($25 each, including food and merchandise credit) will be available exclusively through Bucket Listers. You can join the waitlist to be the first to know when tickets go on sale. Follow @barbiecafeoffical for all the latest news and information.
