Baltimore teacher charged with raping missing 12-year-old girl

BALTIMORE, MD β€” A Baltimore City teacher is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl who had been missing for a week, according to police and a report in the Baltimore Banner.

Lewis Laury, 24, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree rape and third-degree sexual assault, Baltimore County police said in a news release. Laury, a teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools, was charged after police alleged he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor.

According to the Baltimore Banner, the 12-year-old girl connected to the case was found in Pikesville on Thursday after being missing for seven days.

Patch does not identify the girl because she was the victim of an alleged sex crime.

Charging documents obtained by Banner indicate that while searching for the girl, investigators obtained phone records that led them to Laury’s home on Wychwood Court in Pikesville. U.S. Marshals went to the house and found the child inside.

Laury was not home when the 12-year-old was found, the Banner reported. She was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and remained there until Monday evening, her mother told the Banner.

Police say Laury is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. A spokesperson for Baltimore City Public Schools did not immediately respond to Patch’s request for comment.
