Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve Expelled After Numerous Complaints

During the game against New York, Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros was ejected after a heated argument with the umpires. It was the second time in his career that he was sent off from a match (the first time was in 2016).

The dispute began when umpires ejected him for hitting the ball with his foot in the seventh inning. Altuve disagreed with the decision, expressed frustration, threw his helmet and bat to the ground and was subsequently ejected from the game.

During the game, umpire James Jean, who was officiating behind home plate for the first time in a Major League Baseball (MLB) game, called a fair ball and one out to end the inning on a ball hit by Altuve that had touched his foot. Although all four referees discussed the decision, they upheld it, as it was not reviewable. Altuve’s argument with Jean led to his ejection from the game.

After Altuve left, Mauricio Dubón replaced him at second base and Chas McCormick took Dubón’s place in left field. Despite the incident, the Astros went on to win 10-5 over the Mets at Citi Field.

Currently, the Houston Astros are in second place in the American League West with a record of 42-41behind the Seattle Mariners, who have a 47-39 record.
