Buffalo to face Los Angeles in home opener

While everyone has been locked into an insane free agency frenzy, we also received some news regarding next year’s schedule. Every team had their home opener released. For the Buffalo Sabres, it was a Western Conference team that is something you don’t see a lot of.

As you can see in the tweet above, the Sabres will be welcoming the Los Angeles Kings on October 10th for the first of 41 games at KeyBank Center. This game will take place after the Sabres come back from overseas, as they will be in Germany for an exhibition game and two regular season games against the New Jersey Devils in Prague.

The last time Buffalo hosted a Western Conference team in their home opener was back in October 2000 when the Chicago Blackhawks came to town.

In terms of home record against the Kings, Buffalo has had a lot of success when taking on Los Angeles in their home building as the Sabres are 39-18-9-0 against the Kings all time in the comforts of KeyBank Center and Memorial Auditorium.

Their most recent home victory against the Kings came last year as the Sabres won 7-0 back on February 13th. As for the rest of the schedule, it will be released sometime tomorrow. It will be a good test for the blue and gold as LA was a playoff team last season and will most likely be back in contention during the 2024/2025 campaign.

Last season, the Sabres hosted another playoff contender in the New York Rangers to start the season and it did not go well as Buffalo lost 5-1 on home ice. While the Kings are not viewed as being on the same tier as the Rangers, they still present a challenge.

There’s still a long way to go between now and then, but seeing the opponent and the rest of the schedule means we’re one step closer to hockey season.
