Houston police believe alcohol played role in fatal crash where driver lost control on I-45 North in Quitman

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A driver suspected of drunken driving has died after losing control and hitting a wall in north Houston, police say.

The crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday on the northbound lanes of I-45 North near Quitman Street.

Houston police said the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze lost control and hit a wall. The vehicle then bounced onto the main roadways, where it was struck by the driver of a tow truck.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said the tow truck driver did not suffer any serious injuries.

Investigators believe the killed driver may have been drinking. The investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing.

While working at the scene of the accident, a police officer who was blocking an entrance ramp was struck by another impaired driver, police say.

The police officer and the driver were not injured.
