Thaire scores incredible goal against Toronto FC

Jamal Thiaré has just scored the goal of his life.

No, it wasn’t a solo run past five defenders, a 35-yard rocket, or a bicycle kick. It was much, much better.

The Atlanta United forward achieved a historic milestone on Saturday night, sneaking behind unsuspecting Toronto FC goalkeeper Luka Gavran and lunging for a 97th-minute winner.

Gavran had caught the ball and remained on the ground for a moment to collect himself. Thiaré was five meters behind, lurking on the goal line and – in a moment of pure comic inspiration – drink from Gavran’s water bottle while he waited.

But Gavran, like most goalkeepers, would surely be aware of his surroundings. Right?

No. Thiaré’s gamble worked to perfection, he waited for the goalkeeper to roll the ball, then rushed to collect the ball and deposit it into an empty net.

Atlanta won the match 2-1, regaining three points thanks to a memorable moment of opportunism from Thiaré.
