Atlanta Hawks trade star Dejounte Murray to Pelicans

The Atlanta Hawks’ first blockbuster move of the offseason happened Friday night, as they traded Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the story of the trade, writing: “Pelicans are sending Larry Nance Jr. and two first-round picks to Hawks in exchange for Dejounte Murray, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.” Charania reported shortly after that “New Orleans is also sending Dyson Daniels to Atlanta, sources tell us.”

Murray will anchor the Pelicans’ backcourt alongside former No. 1 pick Zion Williamson, while star Trae Young could remain in Atlanta alongside Zaccharie Risacher. It was heavily speculated that at least one of the two guards would see a change of scenery, and it appears that Murray’s deal was more realistic for opposing GMs.

The Hawks continue to build a young and promising core while the Pelicans strive to win now in hopes of competing, whether with or without forward Brandon Ingram.
