P. Terry’s Restaurant is located in San Marcos, Texas. The Austin-based burger chain is expanding to Houston.

P. Terry’s Burger Stand will open a second Houston location in the Spring area, according to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation documents.

The 1950s-inspired Austin burger stand will open in the 20200 block of Champion Forest Dr. as the second Houston P. Terry’s location. A Fort Bend County location is expected to open this fall. Both burger stands will open next to an HEB.

Construction of the 2,600-square-foot Spring site began in January and is expected to be completed in October, according to the licensing document. The estimated cost is $1.5 million, according to the document.

Kathy and Patrick Terry founded the Austin-Stapler in 2005 with the intention of remaining affordable while producing quality food with good service, according to P. Terry website. Despite being in more than 30 locations in Texas, P. Terry’s has kept its prices low, with burgers costing less than $5.

The chain prides itself on using all-natural, hormone- and antibiotic-free Angus beef, as well as homemade pastries and fries. The burger stand serves burgers, veggie burgers, chicken bites, milkshakes and banana bread. It also offers a breakfast burger, potatoes and freshly squeezed orange juice.

The expansion marks a step in P. Terry’s goal to grow. Over the past four years, the number of P. Terry’s restaurants has nearly doubled. The teal-colored eateries have spread throughout the Austin area and into San Antonio. Former P. Terry CEO Todd Coerver told KXAN that Austin’s growing economy made the expansion possible.

In 2022, Coerver told KXAN these two Houston locations are next on their list of expansion plans. However, he said they always ensure new locations can fully meet the company’s freshness standards.
