BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Sabers repositioned themselves in the early rounds of this weekend’s NHL Draft.

Buffalo moved down three spots to pick No. 14 in the first round while adding an additional pick in the second round (No. 42) in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. Having secured the second round pick originally belonging to the New Jersey Devils, the Sabers now hold back-to-back second round picks among their nine selections in the draft.

Sabers general manager Kevyn Adams indicated last week that the team was open to the idea of trading its first-round pick for a player who could provide more immediate help. But he also indicated that a move up or down the draft was a possibility.

The NHL Draft begins with the first round Friday night in Vegas and continues with six more rounds Saturday.
