School districts announce closures and cancellation of Wednesday activities

HOUSTONSchool districts are beginning to report closures ahead of expected rainfall from potential Tropical Cyclone #1.

Your Gulf Coast Weather Authority team is closely monitoring forecast weather and precipitation, which is expected to have a significant impact on areas south and southwest of the Houston metro area.

The following school districts have announced closures for Wednesday, June 19, 2024:

Brazosport ISD

Due to excessive rain forecast in our area, all Brazosport ISD summer schools and school activities are canceled for Wednesday, June 19, 2024. A decision regarding school closures for Thursday will be made and communicated Wednesday afternoon.

Hitchcock ISD

Due to the potential tropical storm bringing high winds and excessive precipitation, Hitchcock ISD will be closed tomorrow. This includes all summer sessions, summer meals, summer strength camps, practices and administrative offices.

Texas City ISD

Due to forecasted severe weather with heavy rain and flooding, Texas City ISD will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. This closure includes state testing, summer school, student camps, Summer Bridge program, athletics, fine arts activities, 21st Century Programs and all other student activities. We are taking this precaution to ensure the safety of all of our students, staff and families. Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel during this time. We plan to be open Thursday June 20th. If we cannot open on Thursday, another announcement will be made.

The following school districts have announced the cancellation of activities on Wednesday, June 19, 2024:

Dickinson ISD

All Dickinson ISD student activities scheduled for Wednesday, June 19 are canceled due to forecasted inclement weather with heavy rain and flooding expected. This includes summer classes, end-of-course tests, the Summer Bridge program, sports and arts activities, senior pictures, and all other student activities. Dickinson High School’s end-of-course tests scheduled for Wednesday have been moved to Thursday. DHS will work directly with students who were scheduled to take multiple EOC tests this week. A decision regarding employees scheduled to work Wednesday will be communicated directly to employees Tuesday evening.
