Houston Dynamo FC beat DC United 4-1 away

WASHINGTON, DC (June 22, 2024) – Houston Dynamo FC secured a 4-1 victory over DC United at Audi Field this evening behind striker That of Sébastien Ferriera first hat trick with Houston. It was Dynamo’s first hat trick since Erick Torres in 2017.

This evening also marked the head coach Ben Olsen first MLS game in the nation’s capital since leaving the club in 2020. Olsen spent more than two decades with DC United as a player and head coach.

DC United went down to 10 men in the 65th minute after striker Christian Benteke received a yellow card for fouling the defender. Griffin Dorsey in the box, then a red card for dissenting to referee Tim Ford. The home side then went down to nine men in the 94th minute when Matai Akinmboni received his second yellow card of the evening.

DC opened the scoring in the 38th minute after the home side won a penalty when midfielder Arthur was deemed to have fouled Benteke in the penalty area. The 33-year-old stepped up and converted the penalty to the right side of the goal.

Houston evened the score with a penalty kick in the 51st minute converted by Ferreira for his second goal of the season. The penalty was won after Matai Akinmboni handled the ball in the box.

Dynamo took the lead in the 54th minute thanks to Ferreira’s second goal of the match and third of the season. The Paraguayan found the net thanks to his striker Amine Bassi sent a loose ball to his teammate near the penalty spot.

Ferreira completed his hat trick in the 86th minute by controlling a cross from the defender’s left side. Brad Smith and I inserted it into the back of the net. Ferreira made his second start of the season and first since late March in which he scored a goal against San Jose.

Before Gabe Segal, born in Washington DC, scored his second goal of the season a few minutes after entering the field. Smith again assisted on the goal from the left side.

Goalie Steve Clark was brought into play in the sixth minute when Theodore Ku-DiPietro tried his luck from outside the box. The veteran goalkeeper played for DC United during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Artur fired a deep shot in the 27th minute, and the strong attempt forced a diving save from goalkeeper Tyler Miller.

Before Aliyou Ibrahim forced Miller to tip the ball over the crossbar in the 31st minute after hitting a half-volley off a captain’s corner Héctor Herrera.

Clark was called into action again in the 48th minute, forcing Benteke’s shot from inside the box over the bar with a quick reaction tip. Clark made two saves on the evening.
