If you are of a certain age, you probably remember the Reggie! Bara caramel bar coated in milk chocolate and filled with peanuts – but when was the last time you ate one?

Restaurant in Houston J-Bar-M Barbecue, located at 2201 Leeland, has partnered with the Baseball Hall of Fame and Special Advisor to the Astros. Reggie Jackson on a special dessert featuring their nostalgic candy bar. Sylvie Sanchez, pastry chef at J-Bar-M Barbecue, worked with Jackson on the new Reggie! Brownie bar, a warm chocolate brownie with the newly relaunched Reggie! Bar baked in the middle and topped with vanilla ice cream. Half of the profits from this reward will be donated to M. October Foundationwhich sets out a four-pronged vision to improve education, provide access, spark interest in STEM, and create a pipeline to the workforce.

Last year, Jackson announced the return of Reggie! Bar on his Instagram with a photo shoot at Minute Maid Park. People might remember Reggie! Bar since its introduction in 1978 during the White Sox vs. Yankees game on April 13 when fans made it rain Reggie! Bar on the grounds in honor of ‘Mr. October’ who would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.

It turns out that the Reggie! Bar has a surprisingly drama-filled history. Production was discontinued in 1981 when the manufacturer, Wayne’s Candies Co., changed ownership several times. In the end, the Reggie! The bar ended up at Pittsburgh Food & Beverage, disappearing completely after the business closed due to the owners. Franc And Michael Carlow be found guilty of fraud against the PNC bank. Michael Carlow was convicted in 1996 (and again in 2013 for tax obstruction), and Frank Carlow was indicted on 91 federal counts in 1997.

Later, Pearson’s candy brought back the original iteration of the candy bar – the Caramel Bun Bar – but it didn’t come back under the Reggie name! Bar until 2023, when Crystal And Bert Westergard from American Candy Nostalgia revived it. For now, the best way to find them is to visit online candy stores that specialize in nostalgic candies.

Or, perhaps even better, visit J-Bar-M Barbecue and enjoy the Reggie! Sea bass as part of a brownie. J-Bar-M Barbecue features a live music venue, beer garden and pitmaster-run smokehouse Alec Varnell and is just down the road from Minute Maid Park and Shell Energy Stadium.

The special dessert is available while supplies last. So, this baseball season, fans attending home games might want to stop by and try the Reggie! Bar Brownie alongside a large plate of BBQ.
