Was drafting Keon Coleman the best move for the Buffalo Bills this offseason?

The Bills had to make some changes this offseason to get under the league salary cap, resulting in the release of Mitch Morse, Jordan Poyer and Tre’Davious White. Also gone are Gabe Davis, signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, and Micah Hyde could potentially retire. Additionally, the Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans as if that wasn’t enough. But they also signed several new names, including wide receiver Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Chase Claypool, among others. However, according to CBSSports.com, none of these decisions shake things up as much as drafting Keon Coleman with the 33rd pick in the NFL Draft.

“Naturally, Buffalo used its first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to select Keon Coleman, a dynamic 6-foot-4, 215-pound player, to fill the void left by Diggs’ departure. Coleman led the ACC in both touchdowns (11) and punt return yards (300) last season at Florida State. He provides a wide catch radius and some post-catch hustle for Bills Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen. , something they desperately needed.

I don’t agree that this was the Bills’ best move this offseason. I would say the Diggs trade fits that bill. You could say he was the best receiver on the team, and statistically, you’d be right; however, the production wasn’t there all the way and the drama surrounding it was a distraction. That said, fans will quickly forget about Diggs if Coleman can be productive and he should provide the team with a viable threat in the end zone with his ball-jumping abilities.

Coleman has already taken Bills Mafia by storm with his personality, and he’s made some plays in OTAs and minicamps to further excite the fanbase. Will this translate to training camp when the pads come into play and into the regular season? Bills Mafia is keeping their fingers crossed that this happens. At 6’4″, he doesn’t look like most other receivers in recent years with the Bills and certainly Josh Allen’s tenure with the team. The new look of the Bills offense should be interesting this season.
