A new professional football team will come to Buffalo in 2026

Starting in 2026, Buffalo will have a team in the United Soccer League. And as you can imagine, people are raving about it.

Here’s what you need to know.

The team will be called Buffalo Pro Soccer. There are plans to bring the professional soccer club to Buffalo by 2026 through an exclusive partnership with USL. The franchise agreement covers a Women’s Super League team within the USL.

There are still big things to sort out, like the location of the stadium. There are four potential sites, all located within the city of Buffalo. The goal is to make this stadium accessible to everyone.

The search for a primary owner is also still ongoing.

What is certain, however, is that it will be a complete club that will help children get into football at home before heading abroad.

“What it’s going to do is it’s going to create idols and people to look up to in their backyard and also at the USL level. MLS is similar but USL is different. We can bring players out by organizing clinics and hosting training camps for teams if they wish,” said Peter Marlette Jr., president of Buffalo Pro Soccer.

Some fun facts about USL. The championship brings together 24 professional men’s teams playing a regular season of 34 matches from March to October. It is the only league sanctioned by Division II of US Soccer.

From an economic standpoint, USL Championship teams draw an average of nearly 6,000 fans per game, with some teams regularly attracting more than 10,000.
