Georgia-Pacific Honored for Efforts to End Domestic Violence in Metro Atlanta
The Honorable Clarence Seeliger Champion for Change Award, presented to Georgia-Pacific for its work to end domestic violence in metro Atlanta.

ATLANTA, June 19, 2024 /CSRwire/ – The people and communities in which we operate are at the heart of everything we do at Georgia-Pacific. Our social management framework is designed to help create stronger communities and change lives for the better. But this work relies on community and nonprofit organizations that work directly with people to solve society’s most concerning problems. Georgia-Pacific actively seeks the expertise and experience of volunteers, academics, first responders and government officials on how to best leverage our resources to have the greatest impact.

For over 17 years, Georgia-Pacific has partnered with the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence (WRCDV). The Women’s Resource Center, based in DeKalb County, Georgia and serving the Atlanta metro area, seeks to create a society in which domestic violence no longer exists. The organization strives to meet the immediate and long-term needs of the diverse community of women and their children affected by domestic violence by providing programs and services that promote safety, compassion, connection, advocacy rights and prevention.

Each year, WRCDV provides direct services to more than 5,000 women and children. Services include a domestic violence hotline, legal defense, safety planning, financial assistance, supervised child exchange, transitional housing assistance, and education campaigns. Camp PEACE helps children exposed to and affected by domestic violence through a summer program with activities that facilitate peace education, trauma-informed care, provide alternatives to violence, increase resilience and build compassion for themselves and others.

Georgia-Pacific supported these initiatives with $220,000 in funding, countless employee volunteer hours and nearly a decade of active board participation. The company was recently recognized by WRCDV in May 2024 at its Champions for Change event, an event Georgia-Pacific supports each year, for its continued contributions and received the Honorable Clarence Seeliger Champion for Change Award.

Community enrichment is one of Georgia-Pacific’s four E’s, philanthropic pillars in which the company actively commits its resources. Supporting survivors of domestic violence and programs to end the problem ensures everyone’s social and economic well-being, allowing people to thrive and contribute to society, which is essential for health, safety and sustainability of our communities.
