A gathering in honor of the white buffalo born in Yellowstone National Park on June 26

Buffalo Field Campaign announced Monday that it will host a rally on June 26, 2024 in honor of the white buffalo born in Yellowstone National Park on June 4. This is the first documented white buffalo born in the national park.

Ellowstone Park is home to the only permanently wild buffalo population in the United States. Among tribal nations, the birth of a white buffalo is held in very high esteem and considered sacred.

The honoring ceremony will take place at the Buffalo Field Campaign headquarters in West Yellowstone, Montana. The ceremony will be presided over by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, 19th generation custodian of the sacred white buffalo pipe and bundle of calves.

“The birth of the little white buffalo in Yellowstone captivated the world. That it took place among the only remaining buffalo herds in the wild is tremendous,” said James Holt, executive director of the Buffalo Field Campaign. “I am honored that the countryside will welcome, once again, Chief Arvol Looking Horse. I hope that this sacred event will contribute to the plight of wild buffalo, as their existence is necessary to all beings, especially here in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.”
