Be on “high alert” for heavy rain in Houston

The Houston area will likely see several inches of rain starting around 10 p.m., Whitmire said during Tuesday’s city council meeting. These rains could cause flooding in the area and precipitation in the south of the city could exceed half a foot by Wednesday.

The items were labeled by Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, delaying the vote.

Whitmire assured residents that all facets of city government, from the health department to solid waste management to fire and police, were prepared to respond to any situation that might arise from the weather. He encouraged everyone to stay off the roads.

“I think we did everything we could to be ready for the high waters,” Whitmire said.
