Hamburg village hires engineering team following residential flooding

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Hamburg Village Board passed a motion at its Monday evening meeting to hire a local engineering team to conduct a drainage study following recent residential flooding.

The motion comes in response to Hamburg residents expressing concerns at the village’s last board meeting in early June, with some saying flooding from recent rainstorms has cost them thousands of dollars.

The drainage study will be carried out in the Charlotte Avenue sector.

“We are trying to analyze whether this is a public or private situation,” Hamburg Village Mayor Thomas Tallman said. “We’re trying to analyze what we find and then we’ll advise residents on what we could do, or they could do to make this less likely to happen again.”

Village resident Judy Hosie said the water didn’t flow for weeks.

“Well, they must find something,” Hosie said. “It’s not our fault, at this point, it’s their fault. It’s something in the system that’s not working properly.

Tallman said he hopes to have answers in the next couple of months.

The public works superintendent told News 4 the village is currently collecting data for the engineering team.
