The East Side Bike Club launches new season of rides

The East Side Bike Club will launch its new ride season on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. Every Saturday, cyclists are invited to attend the group rides, which meet at the Martin Luther King statue in MLK Park. Each ride is approximately 10-12 miles long and is always different from week to week.

The club rides at a pace suitable for all participants so all riders can enjoy the ride, the company and see more of the city.

These free group rides are open to cyclists of all levels, as the paces are set so everyone can enjoy the rides. And just because the rides start on the East Side doesn’t mean that’s where the routes are solely focused. In fact, rides can venture into the suburbs and all parts of the city. This year, the guides are even planning a crossing of the Peace Bridge to Freedom Park in Ontario.

Of particular note this riding season is the “Solidarity Ride,” scheduled for May 18. The ride, which involves cyclists from across the region, takes place in celebration of the 2022 shooting at the Tops store on Jefferson Avenue. By participating in the Solidarity Ride, cyclists “become one” as they come together to demonstrate peace, love and unity.

ESBC works to expand access and awareness of biking in communities of color through weekly bike rides, open workshop hours, and pop-up events throughout the city.
