Tigers vs Astros Prediction and Picks for June 15, 2024

Tigers vs Astros Prediction and Picks for June 15, 2024

Detroit will travel to Houston for the second game of a three-game series on Saturday, June 15. The Tigers are 32-36 overall this season. They have lost six of their last eight games on Saturday. The Astors are 32-38 and have played well recently, winning four of their last seven outings. These two American League teams will meet with first pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EST.

Tigers fall in game one

Detroit is 32-36 overall this season. They are in fourth place in the American League Central Division. The Tigers are 12 games behind the Guardians for first place. They are 16 games ahead of the White Sox for last place in the division. The Tigers have lost six of their last eight games on Saturday.

In their last game, the Tigers lost 4-0 to the Astros on Friday, June 14. Detroit struggled against the excellent pitching that Houston possessed. The Tigers managed just five hits while starting pitcher Tarik Skull tossed 6.1 innings and allowed four earned runs and six hits in the loss.

“He really overpowered a lot of us and then mixed in some breaking balls,” Detroit Tigers manager AJ Finch said. “The curveball he threw late was effective. He was very, very good.

On Saturday, the Tigers will start Jack Flaherty. The right-handed pitcher is 3-4 this season with a 3.22 ERA. He started 12 games in his first year with Detroit. Flaherty pitched five innings in his last start against the Rangers on Tuesday, June 4. He allowed just two hits and no runs in the win. The Tigers were 6-6 when Flaherty started. It’s not his fault in the losses, the Tigers only average two points per game in losses. Flaherty holds a 2.43 ERA in road games and 3.69 when playing during the day.

Detroit is hitting .231 this season, which ranks seventh-worst in the league. They scored the 16th most runs and had the 19th most hits. The Tigers have hit the most triples this season, but they have stolen the second fewest bases. The Tigers are hitting .230 in road games, but they have struggled in the first 10 games of June. Detroit hit just .207 through June. They also hit .200 against the American League West.

The Astros claim victory Friday night against Detroit

Houston is 32-38 overall this season. The Astros are eight games behind the Mariners for first place as they sit in third place. Houston has won four of its last seven games on Saturday.

In their last game, the Astros defeated the Tigers 4-0 on Friday, June 14. Mauricio Dubon’s two-run homer was the highlight of the Astros’ victory. Hunter Brown pitched seven innings and allowed five hits and no runs in the game. He struck out nine batters as he dominated in Friday’s win.

“Our guys kept fighting and he left some changes in the zone,” Houston manager Joe Espada said. “We stayed on him and that’s what you do when you have such a quality pitcher on the mound.”

On Saturday, the Astros will start Justin Verlander. The right-handed pitcher is 3-2 overall with a 4.32 ERA. Verlander started nine games, with his last appearance coming against the Angels on Sunday, June 9. He pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs and seven hits in the loss. He struck out only three batters in the game. Verlander has a 5.40 ERA in three home starts. He played better during the day with a 2.20 ERA in three afternoon starts. The Astros are 4-5 when Verlander started this season.

The Astros are hitting .259 at the plate, which is second best in the league. Houston has scored the 11th most times and they have accumulated the second most hits while striking out the fewest. Houston is batting .265 when they play at home. Houston is also hitting .267 in 12 games in June. The Astros played 13 games against the American League Central and hit .273 during that stretch.

Rating:

The Tigers have surprised many with their strong pitching lineup and Flaherty has been a welcome addition. The Astros’ offense was key to their first half of the season. Verlander will get the start for Houston, but I think it will be the Astros offense that carries the game. Flaherty will work his way through the Astros’ lineup twice, but once the bullpen is out, I expect the Astros to make a move. The Astros’ offense is hitting .273 against the American League Central. They also scored the 11th most points in the league.

Take the Astros for cover.

Prediction: Houston Astros -1.5

Rating:

Flaherty and Verlander would have been a fantastic match a few years ago. Saturday, they will be on the trot with the Tigers and the Astros. I still believe this could be a pitcher’s duel. Verlander has a 2.20 ERA in afternoon starts and Flaherty has a 2.43 ERA in road games. It should be another low-scoring affair on Saturday.

Take the bottom.

Prediction: less than 8 races
