Houston tiger found after week of search

A 175-pound tiger that was seen jumping backyard fences and evading capture for a week in Houston has been found and turned over to authorities.

Police announcement By Saturday, the 9-month-old Bengal tiger, named India, had been returned and appeared to be in good health.

This comes after the pet’s owner contacted the Houston Police Department and said she wanted to return the animal, ABC reported.

“We are pleased to report that the missing tiger seen in a Houston neighborhood last week has been found and appears unharmed,” police said. written on Twitter.

The tiger was taken to BARC Houston, the city’s animal shelter, police added.

India was first seen jumping over backyard fences and wandering across lawns in a west Houston neighborhood on May 11.

Police say the caller who reported seeing the animal said neighbors “started showing up with weapons.”

At one point, the caller said the tiger was looking at them.

A video posted on Twitter shows a man pointing a gun at the animal and backing away as it slowly moves towards him.

The man does not appear to have fired during the 40-second video of last night’s incident.

Police said a person identified as a suspect pulled up in a white Jeep Cherokee and took off with the animal before they showed up.

The Netflix series Tiger King has brought attention to the problem of tigers kept in captivity in the United States, where there are believed to be as many animals as there are left in the wild.

By some estimates, there are about 3,900 tigers left in the wild and as many as 5,000 in captivity across America.
