Houston Dynamo finalizes record deal for Ezequiel Ponce

The Houston Dynamo is finalizing a club-record deal to sign Argentine forward Ezequiel Ponce from AEK Athens, according to sources informed of the deal. Athleticism.

Ponce will occupy one of Dynamo’s three designated player slots. He was the club’s main target in its quest for DP No. 9, according to sources.

Ponce, 27, joined AEK Athens last summer and has excelled with 16 goals in 38 appearances (1,895 minutes) in all competitions.

Coming from Newell’s Old Boys, Ponce was signed by AS Roma to begin his European adventure which saw him stop in Spain (with Granada and Elche), France (Lille), Russia (Spartak Moscow) and in Greece (AEK).

Elsewhere this summer, Houston is still expected to shed DP forward Sebas Ferreira and remain in the market for additional offensive help.

Dynamo are in seventh place in the Western Conference and have had to deal with injuries to several attackers this year. Despite a limited attack, they stood still. Ponce will be a much-needed boost, but will only be eligible to make his debut after the summer transfer window opens on July 18.

Last season, Dynamo won the US Open Cup and advanced to the Western Conference Finals. The club is managed by Hector Herrera and Coco Carrasquilla.
