Drowning Preventative Steps Houston Residents Can Take When Swimming

HOUSTON – A teenage girl died Wednesday after a reported drowning at a community pool in western Harris County.

It happened on Green Crest Dr., near West Park Dr. and Highway 6. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that police were called to the scene and found the teen, believed to be around 15 years old, unconscious. .

She was rushed to hospital in serious condition, but the sheriff confirmed in a later post that she did not survive.

The teen’s unidentified death is unfortunately one of dozens of drowning-related deaths already covered by KPRC 2 this year. One of the most harrowing stories we covered involved a little girl named Aliyah Jaico, who was “violently sucked” by a pipe at a northwest Houston hotel.

That’s why we’re reminding people about the preventative measures they can take, especially as more people plan to hit the water this summer.
