Atlanta nonprofit launches summer initiative against child hunger – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — An Atlanta nonprofit is launching its summer program to fight childhood hunger with a meal prep challenge.

HOPE’s Summer Food Drive in Atlanta takes place as school in Georgia ends for the summer.

The nonprofit said to meet this challenge, it is working to serve 3,600 hot meals and distribute 3,000 snack packs to families in need this summer.

HOPE Atlanta said in a statement that 1.5 million people are food insecure in Georgia, and more than 335,000 of them are children.

As part of efforts to feed those in need during the summer, the credit union and nonprofit are working together to prepare meals for those who are hungry.

Starting Wednesday at 11 a.m., volunteers from Georgia’s Own Credit Union and HOPE Atlanta will serve hot lunches to dozens of women and children while preparing snack baskets to distribute to community members.

The event will take place until noon at the HOPE Atlanta Women’s Community Kitchen on Ponce De Leon Avenue.

The snack packs will include non-perishable main meals, cereal bars, juices and other food items. To honor the 90th anniversary of Georgia’s Own Credit Union, volunteers will prepare 90 snack packs.
