Gowanda Village Mayor to Resign at Board Meeting

Gowanda Village Mayor to Resign at Board Meeting

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Gowanda Village Mayor David Smith announced he would resign at Tuesday night’s village board meeting in a Facebook video post made June 9.

Smith became mayor of Gowanda in 2017.

In his post, Smith said he had shouldered a heavy workload and had worked between 60 and 80 hours a week for seven years.

“Recently I have become saturated, overwhelmed,” he said. “I serve in my county, I serve in my church, I serve in our school and I serve in the village. This feeling of being overwhelmed has led me to be less than 100 percent faithful in all of these services.

Smith also said his responsibilities included spending time with his family.

In the video, he thanked the village board and past and present village employees.

His resignation will take effect on June 12.
