Insider predicts Atlanta Hawks will blow up roster this offseason

NBA Rumors: An NBA insider seems to believe there is a growing chance that the Atlanta Hawks will end up blowing out their entire team this offseason.

Surprisingly, the Atlanta Hawks secured the first overall pick after winning the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery. With the start of the NBA offseason approaching, we can’t help but wonder how much the Hawks winning the first overall pick changed their outlook. For a team that was already looking to overhaul the roster, it’s not strange to believe that landing the first pick in the draft will only allow this team even more opportunity to make big changes.

That’s what one NBA insider says will end up happening this offseason. Bill Simmons of The Ringer noted in a recent podcast that he had heard the Hawks could end up trading Dejounte Murray and Trae Young this offseason.

If that ends up being the case, it would certainly be taken as a fact that the Hawks would blow up their roster and indeed be heading toward a rebuild. If this is a scenario that’s even discussed behind closed doors in the front office, it’s going to make for a busy offseason in Atlanta.

What’s fascinating about the potential moves the Hawks could make this offseason is the fact that Young and Murray aren’t the only ones in the rumor mill. Besides those two, Clint Capela and De’Andre Hunter have been the subject of trade rumors. And those are just the players we know. I’m sure there are other conversations happening behind the scenes as well.

Does this mean the Hawks will trade away the majority of their roster in a single offseason? Absolutely not. However, this almost guarantees that the team will make some moves this summer. This should be considered a lock at this point.

For a team that has managed to disappoint over the past few seasons, the change will likely be seen as a good thing for the Hawks. It’s necessary at this point. Now, perhaps more than ever, the questions revolve around which players will be moved.
