7 key depth chart battles to pay attention to during Buffalo Bills minicamp

The Buffalo Bills kick off the final portion of their offseason workouts this week with a mandatory minicamp. The coaches and players will use this time to continue preparing for the 2024 season and this will be the last time they will be together until training camp at the end of July.

During this week, spots on the depth chart can’t necessarily be gained, but it helps give the coaching staff an idea of what it might look like when the team regroups at St. .John Fisher. With that in mind, here are seven depth chart battles to note during this week of minicamp.

The first battle on the depth charts pits two players who may not be in direct competition but could impact each other through the 2024 season. The Bills drafted Sedrick Van Pran-Granger in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after primarily playing center for the University of Georgia.

If the rookie manages to impress the technical staff, it is not out of the question that he wins the starting job. In this scenario, Connor McGovern would return to left guard where he started every game last year.

McGovern was expected to replace Mitch Morse, who was released this offseason, at center and would remain at that position if the rookie can’t win the starting job. In this case, David Edwards would be in the running to start at left guard and he certainly has a say in this battle and why it’s really between him and the rookie.

The coaching staff will want their top five to protect Josh Allen, meaning Edwards and Van Pran-Granger will have to make their case to be on the field.
