News 2 You: Remembering one of Buffalo’s most popular nightclubs and the moment one of its most iconic idols became infamous

BUFFALO, New York — 10 years ago this week:

Jim Kelly was released from ECMC after undergoing cancer treatments.

Community members have seen images of the proposed development for the Gates Circle area following the planned demolition of Millard Fillmore Hospital. Today, part, but not all, of the envisioned plan has been completed.

Construction work on the new Niagara Falls train station in the city’s north has been inaugurated. The station was built but did not become the catalyst for economic development as proponents of the costly project predicted.

As the state legislative session in Albany drew to a close, lawmakers passed a bill making revenge porn a felony in New York.

The Pegulas sold 75,000 acres of prime fracking land in Ohio and West Virginia for $1.75 billion. Shortly after, they were able to succeed in their bid to purchase the Buffalo Bills.


One of America’s most beloved musicians, Ray Charles, has died at the age of 73.

Tom Brokaw was still anchoring NBC’s nightly news.

The Olsen twins turned 18.

Local favorites The Goo Goo Dolls performed to an appreciative crowd at the Allentown Arts Festival.

Fans at Holland Speedway enjoyed the school bus demolition derby as a prelude to summer.


Shocked neighbors gathered outside a West Los Angeles apartment after the bodies of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were found brutally murdered. Suspicion quickly turned to her ex-husband, OJ Simpson, whose iconic stature as a sports hero and entertainment star in Buffalo and abroad made it difficult for many to believe he could have anything or to do with the murders.

However, a few days later, Simson was charged. Then came the infamous Ford Bronco chase and the “trial of the century” which lasted over 9 months and was broadcast on national television.

Simpson was ultimately acquitted of criminal charges related to those deaths, but questions about his involvement followed him for the rest of his life until his death two months ago at the age of 76.


People still party all night at what were once Buffalo’s most popular nightclubs. Located in North Buffalo, it reigned supreme in the 70s and 80s and was known for attracting celebrities whenever they visited the city.
