10 injured in shooting at Wisconsin rooftop party

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An early morning shooting at a Wisconsin rooftop party left at least 10 people, including teenagers, injured, police said Sunday.

Nine people were injured by gunfire and another by broken glass during a party at a downtown Madison building.

All injured people were transported to local hospitals. None of them had life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Madison police said in an update Sunday afternoon that at least one of the injured remains hospitalized.

The victims were aged between 14 and 23.

“It’s truly a miracle that no one died,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference. “As a community, our hearts ache. »

Police were called to the apartment complex around 12:45 a.m.

“These students should have been celebrating their summer break and not receiving medical care,” Barnes said.

The shooting occurred near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, but university officials said no students were among those injured or involved.

No one was in custody Sunday in connection with the shooting.
