Tesla expected to open a dealership in Buffalo Grove in 2025

After more than a decade of attempts to develop the former Rohrman auto dealership properties off Dundee Road in Buffalo Grove, a groundbreaking ceremony was held May 1 for a Tesla dealership as well as spaces residential and commercial properties that will be created in the coming years. .

The village and Shorewood Development Group hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Bison Crossing development, located at 915 Dundee Rd. in Buffalo Grove.

Attendees heard remarks from Village President Eric Smith and Louis Schriber III, founding partner and CEO of Shorewood Development Group.

“Patience is a virtue,” Smith said during the ceremony. “It’s been a long, winding road. This takes a lot of work and I thank the board for their perseverance in making difficult decisions.

He also thanked the village staff for their hard work.

“They worked hard to make our (board’s) visions, wants and desires a reality,” Smith said.

Additionally, Smith thanked Schriber for his investments in Buffalo Grove, highlighting multiple investments since he helped develop Woodman’s and the strip center across the street at Milwaukee Avenue and Deerfield Parkway , years ago.

Schriber said he first made an offer on the Dundee Road property about 12 to 13 years ago and was looking to open a grocery store, but that never came to fruition.

He said he was proud of the development and thanked not only village staff and administrators, but also the zoning board, calling the project a “collaboration” with everyone.

Several Tesla models, including the cutting-edge Cyber ​​Truck, highlighted the event, giving attendees a glimpse into the future of automotive innovation.

The 16-acre site, formerly home to Rohrman automobile dealerships, will feature a 50,000-square-foot state-of-the-art Tesla sales, service and delivery center, as well as a luxury complex with more than 220 units.

Additionally, leasing efforts for retail/restaurant uses are underway for the five-acre parcel located at the corner of Dundee Road and Old Arlington Heights Road.

After sitting vacant for 12 years, Bison Crossing is located in a new Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, which was approved to help spur redevelopment of this parcel.

Village Manager Dane Bragg called it a “transformational project” for the Dundee Road corridor, which aligns with the village’s strategic plan.

According to Bragg, once the development is fully completed, the village anticipates between $400,000 and $500,000 in annual sales taxes and, under the redevelopment agreement, Shorewood will only see performance-based revenue, with no financial responsibility for the village.

Bragg noted that Shorewood was the right developer for this project because the village was already familiar with their work on the north end of town in addition to having a great working relationship with Schriber and his team.

The entire development is expected to be completed by 2027 and Tesla will open its doors by next year.
