Jon Rahm withdraws from LIV Golf Houston due to foot injury ahead of 2024 US Open

Jon Rahm withdrew from LIV Golf Houston on Saturday due to an infection in his left foot, according to Brentley Romine of NBC Sports.

Rahm shot three under in the first round Friday before making six pars to start the second round Saturday. He retired after sinking his final putt.

According to @TeeTimesPub on X, Rahm was “working his foot just minutes before teeing off” on Friday. He was also clearly in pain after his tee shot at the par-three seventh on Friday, but he finished the round. The LIV broadcast later added that Rahm was playing with a cut between his toes.

Rahm’s withdrawal comes five days before he is scheduled to leave for the first round of the U.S. Open, which is being played at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Rahm is a two-time major winner after notching victories at the 2021 US Open and the 2023 Masters. He has won 11 times on the PGA Tour but left last year to join LIV. Rahm has performed well so far in LIV, recording seven top 10 finishes and two third places.

But now all eyes are on Thursday to see if Rahm will be able to play at the US Open.

The good news is that the injury doesn’t seem too serious based on initial reports and he will also have some time to recover. On the other hand, it was embarrassing enough for him to withdraw from this weekend’s event with 30 holes remaining.

Rahm is currently +2200 to win the US Open on DraftKings Sportsbook. Scottie Scheffler, by comparison, is the favorite at +320.
