Bryce Elder strikes out 9, Stripers belt three home runs in 10-1 win over Durham

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Starting pitcher Bryce Elder struck out nine as the Stripers scored double-digit runs for the second straight game to win 10-1 over the Durham Bulls.

First baseman Yuli Gurriel powered the Stripers offense with a 3-for-5 day with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Gurriel’s RBI in the first inning opened the scoring, bringing in shortstop Andrew Velasquez; Chadwick Tromp brought in Gurriel with a double the next at-bat.

Velasquez’s double extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Gurriel’s two-run homer in the sixth then put the game out of Durham’s reach. The 39-year-old extended his on-base streak to 23 games and was three times in the cycle.

Second baseman Alejo Lopez and outfielder Ramon Laureano both launched two-run homers in the eighth. The barrage was part of a record nine extra-base hits for the Stripers.

Parker Dunshee pitched three innings with two hits to close out the game. Tyler Alexander took the loss for the Bulls.

The Stripers continue the six-game series against the Bulls on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Dylan Dodd will take over for the Stripers against Shane Baz for the Bulls.
