South Broadway bar owner welcomes response after attack

DENVER (KDVR) – The owner of a South Broadway bar is thanking neighboring businesses and Denver Police for rescuing the situation after a reported assault.

Victor Ayala said he was attacked by a man with a knife outside his bar and lounge, Desert Social, last Saturday. A cellphone video appears to show a man chasing Ayala outside the business and lunging at the owner.

“He actually pulled out a knife. He hit me with the knife,” Ayala said.

Ayala said someone from one of the neighboring businesses called police, who responded within “30 seconds.”

Ayala said the man was arrested. An email to Denver police seeking confirmation of the incident did not immediately return a response.

Ayala said he suffered a minor injury and preferred to look at the incident in a positive light.

“What happened on Saturday was good,” Ayala said. “Because he is no longer a threat.”
