Buffalo Gap Road construction project, expected to be completed in fall 2024, could be pushed back again

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The estimated completion date for ongoing Buffalo Gap Road construction is still on track to be completed this fall, but could be pushed back to 2025.

KTAB/KRBC reached out to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for a construction update as its original completion date approaches.

In this update, TxDOT said construction of Buffalo Gap Road is still expected to be completed in November, but there is a more pessimistic completion timeline of early 2025.

If that deadline is pushed back, we’ll be looking at three years of construction on a busy Abilene thoroughfare.

TxDOT began the major project on a 1.27-mile stretch along Buffalo Gap Road in South Abilene in January 2022. The project was expected to have a 2 1/2-year completion time, making summer 2024 its timeline of estimated completion. However, if you’ve been down this path recently, you’ll find that there’s still a lot of work to do.

In our last update on this project in February, the ministry revealed that the project was within its original budget of $23,883,729.94. According to the TxDOT Project Tracker, 75% of this budget has been used.

While it may not be the best news, we can remain optimistic that more clear roads will arrive in November. BigCountryHomepage.com will continue to monitor this project as the estimated completion date approaches.
