Heights shooting leads to probation for one man, prison for co-defendant | Crime

On Wednesday, Judge Steve Duskie sentenced Burr to 10 years’ probation in 426th District Court. As a condition, Duskie ordered Burr to write a letter of apology to the victim, according to Bell County court records.

Records show that Burr pleaded guilty on April 2.

Although he was sentenced to probation, Burr remained in the Bell County Jail on $20,000 bail Friday, facing an unresolved charge of evading arrest with a vehicle, a third-degree felony.

Salazar, the co-defendant, pleaded guilty on August 25, 2023. Duskie found him guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison on December 21, 2023. Salazar is serving his sentence in a prison in Abilene and is scheduled to be released on August 9, 2025, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He will be eligible for parole in August of this year.

On December 7, 2021, Heights Police were called to a residence in the 100 block of West Mockingbird Lane for a report of a shooting.

There, police encountered a man who “was shaking and appeared to be afraid,” according to an affidavit. Police said the man’s arm was swollen.

The man told police that Salazar brought another man – later identified by police as Burr – to his home.

“A physical altercation ensued between Burr and (the victim) which ended when (the victim) returned home,” the affidavit states. “Burr broke down the door to (the victim’s) home, entered and threatened (the victim) by pointing a gun at him.”

Police said a 14-year-old child was sitting on the couch and told police he saw Burr point the firearm at (the victim).

“Burr left and was driven away by Salazar,” the affidavit states.

A witness told police that before leaving, Salazar fired at and hit a car near which the witness was standing.

Another armed assault case in Harker Heights was resolved this week in Bell County courtrooms.

Alicia Ann Uribe, 29, also known as Andy Uribe, was charged on June 9, 2021. She pleaded guilty on April 25 and was then sentenced Thursday in 264th District Court. Judge Paul LePak sentenced Uribe to four years’ probation, court records show.

On April 17, 2021, Heights Police were called to a residence in the city for a domestic dispute involving a firearm.

There, officers encountered a man who said his roommate Uribe “attempted to evict him without following eviction procedures and threatened to shoot him,” an affidavit states.

The man told police that he had been living in the apartment for about eight months.

“The victim stated that he and Uribe had been arguing because she wanted him to move out immediately and he was unable to do so for several weeks,” police said. “Uribe pushed the victim out of the garage and closed the door. Uribe and the victim then had a verbal argument outside the garage before Uribe ran into the house and came out with a black handgun. Uribe then pointed the handgun at the victim’s head and threatened to kill him if he did not leave the property.”

Police said Uribe’s family members ran out of the house and dragged her back inside.

In another case, a Killeen woman was sentenced to four years’ probation for striking a Killeen Independent School District employee during an altercation at a high school last year.

Trinity Westbrook, 18, was charged with third-degree assault on a public servant on Sept. 20, 2023. She pleaded guilty on April 26, according to Bell County court records.

Judge Duskie sentenced Westbrook on Friday in the 426th District Court.

On September 1, 2023, Killeen police officers were called to a disturbance in a hallway at Killeen High School.

“When they arrived, they observed a student named Trinity Westbrook yelling and being aggressive towards an employee…” an affidavit states. “After Westbrook was arrested, (the victim, an administrative employee) reported that the disturbance began in a classroom where (the victim) was helping the assistant teachers and Westbrook left the classroom. Westbrook later returned, still upset, and (the victim) sent her to the assistant principal’s office. Westbrook refused to go into the office and struck (the victim) in the face with Westbrook’s fist. (The victim) reported that she felt pain as she was struck.”

Police said two other employees witnessed the attack and made statements to police.
