Assault suspect arrested after police chase

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A person was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly leading Charlotte-Mecklenburg County officers on a chase before jumping out of the car and fleeing on foot.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they attempted to stop a stolen car on Reames Road shortly before 12:20 p.m.

According to CMPD, the driver refused to stop, leading officers on a chase that took place mostly on Interstate 77.

The car then collided with a third party’s car on Interstate 77 South at Morehead Street, police said.

According to police, the suspect drove away after the accident.

The pursuit ended about 20 minutes later after the suspect allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and ran near Reid Avenue and Caronia Street.

According to police, there were several arrest warrants against the suspect at the time, including for assault with a deadly weapon.

Her name has not been released yet.
