Houston SaberCats bring 713 flavor to rugby

Houston SaberCats bring 713 flavor to rugby

The sport of rugby has grown rapidly in the United States with the growing popularity of MLR (Major League Rugby). The SaberCats fly the Houston Rugby flag and play at SaberCats Stadium, just 15 minutes from downtown. Maybe it’s my own involvement in rugby, but I’ve been happy to see the Cats achieve success in 2024.

Houston currently leads the league with an 11-1 record and a whopping 123 point differential. The Cats scored a record 368 points and are absolutely must-play material for any Houston sports fan. If you want to get started in one of the most exciting and impactful sports there is, there’s no better time than this weekend.

H city night

Instead of the typical yellow and black the Sabercats sport, Houston will wear special city edition kits this weekend – in the iconic baby blue that people here know and love. Houston seasoning doesn’t stop there either. In honor of the city, some tickets for Saturday’s match against RFC Los Angeles will be sold for $7.13.

With only three home games left in the regular season and the SaberCats leading the league, I highly encourage you to qualify for this game. The mix of physicality and speed on display makes everyone a fan. Of course, having the best team in MLR should help.

I know a lack of rugby knowledge can be a bit of a barrier to entry, but don’t let that stop you from attending one of the best lawn shows in the country. I’m going to try to create a little rugby knowledge blog for you, but in the meantime I guarantee you’ll find die-hard SaberCats fans on match day, happy to explain the game to you.

The action will begin at 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, June 8. If you cannot come this weekend, do not hesitate to consult the program below. There are also SaberCats nights if you’re addicted to rugby, so keep an eye on the Cats social media too!

By the way, Apollo will be inviting people to the game next Saturday. We can’t wait to see the Cats add another mark to the win column.
