Houston Astros finally get some good injury news on two star players

The Houston Astros have certainly had a tough hand when it comes to injuries.

Their two aces, Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez, both spent time on the injured list this season, which proved to be the least of their worries.

It was officially announced that Cristian Javier and Jose Urquidy would be lost for the rest of the year after needing surgery which is confirmed to be Tommy John surgery for Javier, and what is expected to be the same surgery for Urquidy.

This is brutal news for the Astros who have already been without Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers Jr. for an extended period due to their own surgeries.

With that in mind, Houston needs to avoid any of its other star players being injured as it looks to get back into the playoff picture.

The entire organization and fans held their collective breath when Spencer Arrighetti suffered a left calf injury on Tuesday, limiting his outing, and Alex Bregman was hit by a hand throw in the same game that caused him to be scratched on Wednesday. .

Both of these situations could have posed major problems for the Astros, but they ultimately received some good news on the injury front.

According to Chandler Rome of Athleticism, X-rays of Bregman’s hand came back negative and Arrighetti is not expected to miss his next start after saying “he’s fine.”

This is huge for Houston.

With Arrighetti, they only have five healthy starters on their 40-man roster with extended Major League experience, and even placing the rookie in that ranking is a bit of a stretch. They certainly need the 24-year-old to move forward, as he has settled in a bit after a difficult start to the season.

General Manager Dana Brown said they aim to get projects started before the deadline, and it looks like they will definitely be on the market.

Obviously, having Bregman available and not missing extended time gives a huge boost to this team who soon needs to start winning in batches if they want to play fall baseball.
