Niagara County looking to recruit new correctional officers

Niagara County is recruiting correctional officers and this process no longer requires a written exam.

Instead, applicants will be evaluated based on their education and experience with a physical fitness exam and a medical exam.

Additionally, you do not need to live in Niagara County to apply. Residents of Erie, Genesee and Orleans County are also eligible. If hired, applicants then have six months to relocate to Niagara County.

“Correctional officers play an extremely important role in our criminal justice system, which is why we are very concerned about the lack of candidates applying for these positions,” said Legislator David Godfrey, chairman of the county administration committee. . “We believe these changes to our civil service requirements, which focus on individual qualifications and experience, will lead to a broader and more diverse candidate pool.”

Interested candidates have until June 17 to complete their application then have between July 1 and 31 to complete an online questionnaire. All applications will be evaluated by the State of New York.

Interested people can apply to https://niagara-portal.mycivilservice.com/exams. Starting pay is $26.02 per hour.
