Cousins Maine Lobster opens second rotating food truck in Houston

In an effort to bring a taste of the East Coast to Texas, Cousins Maine Lobster has opened its second food truck in the Houston area.

The overview

The Cousins Maine Lobster food truck debuted in the Houston area in December 2018, said Ahmer Khan, co-owner of the franchise. It added a second truck to the region’s rotation in March to serve more communities.

Community members can find the trucks in a variety of locations, including local neighborhoods, breweries and at events, Khan said. To find out where the next food truck will be, customers can check the schedule on the food truck’s website, social media or app, he said.

There are a total of five trucks in Texas, including Dallas, Houston and Austin, Khan said.

On the menu

The menu features two signature rolls served on New England dinner rolls, including:

  • Maine, which is chilled lobster with a touch of mayonnaise
  • Connecticut, which is hot lobster with butter and lemon

Other specialties include lobster grilled cheese, lobster tots, and lobster tacos, or you can also enjoy lobster bisque or New England clam chowder.

“If you love lobster, this affordable Maine delicacy is the best product in the world,” Khan said. “All the different lobster creations and preservations we have are so unique.”

The background

Food trucks began in Los Angeles more than 10 years ago, when two cousins, Sabin Lomac and Jim Tselikis, were looking for a way to relive their childhood in Maine around lobster, Khan said.

However, business really boomed after the cousins pitched the idea on TV’s “Shark Tank,” partnering with investor Barbara Corcoran and started franchising, Khan said.

What else?

Beyond weekly public events, the truck can also accommodate private events such as weddings, corporate events and birthday parties, Khan said.
