Two Houston Astros get All-Star Game votes from MLB Insider

The Houston Astros are limping to the West Coast in several ways.

Houston is seven games under .500 as they head to Anaheim to face the Los Angeles Angels. Two other pitchers – José Urquidy and Cristian Javier – are out for the season with arm injuries. The Astros’ list of needs at the trade deadline is growing.

Voting for this year’s All-Star Game began Wednesday. Fans will spend the next few weeks selecting the starting lineup for the American and National Leagues when they gather at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, on July 16.

The Astros on the ballot include first baseman Jon Singleton, second baseman Jose Altuve, shortstop Jeremy Peña, third baseman Alex Bregman, outfielders Kyle Tucker, Jake Meyers and Mauricio Dubón, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and catcher Yainer Diaz.

But only two, according to Matt Snyder of CBSSports.com, deserve a vote, at least in his opinion.

First up is Tucker, who he would vote for along with New York Yankees outfielders Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.

Tucker is putting together another MVP-caliber season in right field, where he’s slashing .266/.395/.584/.979 with 19 homers and 40 RBIs entering the Angels’ series. Tucker has hit 29 or 30 home runs in each of his last three seasons and has driven in at least 100 runs in each of his last two seasons.

The other is Álvarez, who is approaching his usual production as a DH. He slashed .285/.357/.485/.842 with 12 homers and 28 RBIs. He has hit at least 30 home runs and driven in at least 90 runs in each of his last three seasons.

Alvarez and Tucker have made the All-Star Game in each of the last two seasons.

Phase 1 of All-Star Game voting ends on June 27. Fans can vote up to five times per day on MLB.com, all 30 team sites and the MLB app.

The top two vote-getters at each position and the top six outfielders will be revealed at 6 p.m. June 27 on MLB Network. The top vote-getter from each league is automatically selected to the team.

The remaining top vote-getters move to Phase 2, with voting scheduled for June 30 to July 3. Fans can vote only once and the vote totals from Phase 1 do not carry over. The winners at each position, as well as the top three outfielders, will be revealed at 7 p.m. ET on July 3.

Pitchers and reserves are determined by a player ballot and by the commissioner’s office. The full list is announced on July 7.
