Man killed at Houston Farmers Market on Airline Drive

Investigators with the Houston Police Department were working to collect statements from witnesses in the area.

HOUSTON — An investigation is underway after police say a man in his 40s was found shot to death in the employee parking lot of the Houston Farmers’ Market Thursday morning.

This happened around 4:15 a.m.

A witness told Houston police that two young men were seen on security cameras trying to steal a golf cart. It was then that the victim tried to confront them. There was a brief scuffle before the two men shot him. The victim died on the spot.

HPD said the building was open early in the morning for deliveries. They believe the suspects were looking for things to steal because they were carrying backpacks.

A security guard at the market told police that everything happened very quickly and that she did not have time to draw her weapon. HPD said at least four shell casings were found at the scene.

It is unclear if the farmers market will be open today. HPD said it has security video that clearly shows the suspects. They said the two men fled south on Airline Drive.

KHOU 11 News has blurred the faces of the two suspects since we have not confirmed their ages and they could be minors.
