Where are the traffic lanes on Main Street in Buffalo?

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) – Something is missing on some roads in Buffalo. Those double yellows, white dashes and turn arrows have faded on roads like Main Street.

“Every time I ask myself, how can the second largest city in New York have no traffic lanes?” » a Buffalo father wrote in 7 News.

It was partly his concerns that led us to look deeper into the problem.

“I am the parent of a leukemia patient who has driven hundreds of times to area hospitals. For each of these excruciating trips, I have to drive down Main Street,” he said. writing.

But on a street in Delaware, the roads look like this.

We took our concerns to Buffalo Public Works Commissioner Nathan Marton, asking where are the lines?

“They’re there. We’re continually working on the lines. So this is something that during our summer season we can really take them down effectively,” Marton said.

He says the timeline for completing this work can be difficult because the city uses only one contractor to do this work.

“It’s kind of one of the only ones in Western New York that does striping not only for the city of Buffalo, but other municipalities as well,” Marton said.

But this year, the city is investing more in road painting.

“We have the largest funding ever for striping, $700,000 in this year’s budget,” Marton said.

He says in past years they allocated us between $250,000 and $350,000 3 years ago. They recently striped Masten and Utica and parts of W. Ferry.

There is also $500,000 from the city’s Bicycle Master Plan to create bike lanes.

“We’re coming, we haven’t forgotten you, so maybe it’s just a matter of timing,” Marton said.

If your street is without a line and you have concerns, Marton advises notifying the city via 311.
