Teachers play a crucial role in educating the future generation, and to honor them, National Teacher Appreciation Day (also known as National Teachers Day) is celebrated on Tuesday, May 7, which falls in National Teacher Appreciation Week.

In a proclamation recognizing the holiday last week, President Joe Biden said: “Teachers are the heart and soul of our nation…we thank them for their tireless efforts and recommit ourselves to taking care of our teachers, just as they took care of all of us.”

As a thank you, many restaurants and stores offer discounts and gifts to educators across the country.

Your teacher card can get you a free personal pizza in store at Peter Piper Pizza until May 10. You can exchange one per day with a valid ID.

What is National Teacher Appreciation Week and why is it celebrated?

National Teacher Appreciation Week is an annual event held to honor and show appreciation for the contributions of teachers to education and student development. It takes place during the first full week of Maywith Teacher Appreciation Day falling on Tuesday this week.

The celebration honors the hard work, dedication and impact of teachers on the lives of their students and community. These can include awards ceremonies, lunches, thank you notes and gifts.

National Teacher Appreciation Week has taken place observed for the first time in 1984, created by the National Parent Teacher Association and the National Education Association. Since then, it has become an annual tradition celebrated across the United States.
