Woman arrested after leading police on chase in Eufaula, Barbour County

EUFAULA, Ala. (WTVM) – A woman was arrested in Eufaula after leading police on a high-speed chase. According to her Facebook page, 40-year-old Latasha Gilbert faces several charges after leading police through Eufaula and into Barbour County.

Authorities said Gilbert was driving over 70 miles per hour on South Eufaula Avenue and over 90 miles per hour on Highway 30 near Barbour County. To evade police, Gilbert drove on the wrong side of the highway and narrowly missed oncoming traffic.

The chase ended when Gilbert crashed while attempting to pass a Barbour County Sheriff’s deputy’s car. She was taken to Barbour Medical Center for her injuries and arrested shortly thereafter.

While she awaits bail, she faces the following charges:

  • Escape or attempted escape
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Speeding/driving with a suspended ticket
