HSBC’s innovative new office space @ Larkin Square

HSBC’s innovative new office space @ Larkin Square

A few days ago, HSBC held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new city center offices at Larkin Square. Michael Roberts, HSBC’s CEO for the United States and the Americas, and other senior HSBC executives joined Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Special Olympics New York CEO Stacey Hengsterman for the unveiling of the new space. Other attendees included Howard Zemsky and Kayla Zemsky of the Larkin Development Group, as well as representatives from the offices of Governor Kathy Hochul, Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman Timothy Kennedy and Assembly Speaker Crystal Peoples-Stokes .

HSBC delivered a message at the inauguration, stating that it was clearly here (in Buffalo) to stay.

“HSBC is here to stay in Buffalo, and our innovative new office represents our steadfast commitment to the city and Western New York,” Roberts said. “We are excited to be part of the community and contribute to its vibrant economy. We make the return to the office an engaging, collaborative and inspiring experience for our colleagues, while supporting the community we serve. Together, we are building not only office space for our employees and clients, but also a foundation for the future growth and prosperity of this remarkable city.

“The HSBC offices are a welcome addition to historic Larkin,” said Mayor Brown. “The impact will even be felt downtown and in communities across the city. »

As for the new offices (formerly occupied by KeyBank), which occupy three floors within the building, they include:

  • New furniture and modern designs
  • A beautiful mural painted by local artist Cassandra Ott
  • An open floor design
  • Heads up and heads down desks
  • Workspaces designed for more effective collaboration

With nearby amenities including daycare, health club, breweries, restaurant, restaurants, food trucks, and more, HSBC anticipates more employees will choose to work in this newly reimagined office environment .

HSBC employs upwards of 3,000 people in the WNY region.

The building itself – initially redeveloped ten years ago – was built as a factory in 1893, in the Romanesque style. This new investment in the structure marks a significant alignment between the Larkin Development Group and HSBC, bringing additional life to an already robust Larkin Square.

A full pétanque court was set up outside the Larkin building for the festivities. The bocce match served as a preview for a Special Olympics bocce tournament, where HSBC executives joined athletes participating in Buffalo RiverWorks.
