Houston County election candidate disqualified due to spouse’s employment

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — The Houston County Board of Elections has disqualified the candidate running for election to Position 7 of the Houston County School Board. seat.

“You’re disqualified,” said Andrew Bennett, vice chairman of the Houston County Board of Elections. “The fact that your wife is registered with the Board of Education. An investigation was conducted and confirmed with the Board of Education attorney.”

Johnson and his wife, Traci Johnson, told WGXA News they disagree with the decision.

“We’re going to do whatever we have to do because this is a bunch of lies from the Houston County School Board,” Clyde Johnson said.

The Johnsons maintained that they did not hold administrative positions within the Houston County school system.

Before Tuesday night, Johnson would have faced Angel Brown in a runoff, as neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the May 21 general election.

WGXA reached out to representatives of the Houston County School System and the Houston County School Board for comment.
