How the Houston Astros and MLB will respond to the injury epidemic

As Houston Astros fans wait to hear an update on the health of Jose Urquidy and Cristian Javier, we wonder why the team is being so secretive about their injuries?

It’s not like there’s a competitive advantage to withholding information, like in football or hockey, when players can target the injured area and try to make the situation worse.

Typically, teams inform reporters of the injured body part and/or their expected return date. That’s definitely not the case with the Astros, you’re lucky to hear something like “arm discomfort.”

In the case of Jose Urquidy, we saw reports that he was seeking a second opinion and that Tommy John surgery was on the table. But the Astros aren’t ready to say his season may be over just yet.

With Cristian Javier, we still have no concrete information on the injury, and we are approaching almost two weeks without news.

So why this secrecy? And what will the loss of Urquidy and Javier mean for the 2024 Astros if they actually finish the season?

Additionally, did the pitch timer and application of the “sticky stuff” cause an increase in injuries? And if so, will MLB do anything about it?

Don’t miss the video above as we break it all down!
